#22 Field O'Bluebonnets
I made my first photo trip into the Texas Hill Country (2002) this spring, and after consulting with several of the townspeople around Fredericksburg, I'm convinced that my timing was just right. Unusually heavy spring rains resulted in a bumper crop of Bluebonnets, and while I see good clusters of Bluebonnets in the Wind River Range of Wyoming, I have never seen fields of Bluebonnets that covered a whole hillside.
Bright sunlight and wind is not advantageous for f lower photography, both of which were very strong upon my arrival in Texas. The next couple of days were spent searching for great compositions, while waiting for winds to subside. The third and fourth day brought overcast skies and practically no wind as I photographed the scenes previously scouted.
I love this photo due to the number of Bluebonnets that covered the field; however, what I really like in this image is the beautiful color of green that is only produced in early spring.
