#46 Three Ladies

About eight years ago, I decided to purchase a Phalaenopsis Orchid; not that I had thoughts of photographing the flowers, but simply because I love plants and needed a new challenge in my life. As of today, I have eleven orchids which allows me to photograph them at any stage during their blooming cycle. I'm proud to say that my very first orchid is still healthy and generally produces blooms twice a year.

Flower photography is relatively simple, unless of course you're doing a shot like image #10 and you were not born with a great amount of patience. Whether I'm at home or photographing in the mountains, I prefer an overcast day for flower photography which produces very soft light and enables colors to reach maximum saturation.

For this shot, I used a white reflector to add a little fill light against the faces of the orchids and to help the colors really explode, I shot into a black velvet background... enjoy!
