#68 Blue Sky
The day I shot image #03, skies were slightly hazy, so the following morning and last day before the Cirque of the Towers, I awoke early and decided to make another composition of this little stream that cascaded over the rocks and flowed towards Lonesome Lake.
Morning skies were a deep blue at 9000 feet, and as the sun gained elevation the skies continued to darken on the viewing screen of my camera until they became a dark purple due to the polarizer I had attached to the front element of my lens to cut down on glare.
When I received processed film back from the lab, I preferred the images towards the last of the roll due to the flowers on the left side that caught additional sunlight as the sun gained altitude in the morning sky. What I did not like however, and especially since I prefer my images to look as close to natural as possible, was the deep purple sky which was created by the polarizer.
I almost trashed the transparency, but for some reason I put it in my "some potential" file. It remained there for about five years, and then with the improvement of Photoshop CS and my new Imacon scanner, I decided to scan the image with hopes of getting the sky back to the deep blue that I remembered on my last day in the Cirque.... enjoy!
